I shared this unicorn ten frame freebie with my email list a couple of weeks ago but wanted to make sure to share it here so you had a chance to use it with your kids.
What’s included:
First, I wanted to say that these ten frame mats were made so that ANYONE can work on number recognition and counting. I made sure to create two different mats to make them accessible to all learners.
Here are the two types of mats in this unicorn ten frame freebie. One that has dots to match the number on the ten frames which makes it more of matching and counting to identify the number. The other one is blank which encourages the child to identify first.
How to Use Unicorn Ten Frame:
Identifying Numbers and Counting
The main idea is for your kids to identify the number, count out erasers or cubes to match the number, then place the objects on the ten frames to match. Since there are two different mats included, you can use the mat that meets the need of your kids. The dots will give your practice with connecting the number of dots to the written number. The blank ten frames will reinforce identifying and counting. We used mini erasers from Target but anything you have at home will work!
Number Tracing
After your kids build their ten frames to match the number they can trace the number word. This is an added skill that focuses on fine motor, letter recognition, and practices some letter sounds.
Unicorn Ten Frame Number Puzzles
Finally, once your child completes each ten frame you can cut the mat in half to make puzzles! Make sure to cut the mats with dots so your child can match the number and ten frames. You can even put them upside down and play a fun game of memory!
