I have a fun pumpkin art activity that you can try with your preschoolers! This pumpkin art activity is super EASY to do and your kids will LOVE it!
Pumpkin Art Activity Supplies
Small Pumpkin
Letter P Page
Orange Paint
Construction Paper
I put the paint on a paper plate and gave my preschoolers a small pumpkin to dip into the paint.
Learning through Play
As your preschooler is stamping their painted pumpkin all over their letter P this is a great opportunity to work on some learning!
Letter P Activity
The first obvious learning concept is that they are working on identifying the letter p! Whenever they make a pumpkin print they could say the letter p. “P, p, p, p, p.” Or you have them say the sound the letter p makes every time they stamp their pumpkin. “/p/, /p/, /p/.” This is engaging because they are moving while they are doing it (stamping the pumpkin) and they are seeing the letter as they do it.
Reviewing Colors
Another easy way to work in some learning while they paint is to review the colors. You can ask them what color they are using AND ask them if they know what two colors make the color orange. As an added activity, you could make the color orange by mixing yellow and red paint!
Fine Motor
The final skill your preschoolers will work on is fine motor! You can have them cut out their letter! If they aren’t ready for the curved lines, you could cut out most of it but leave the straight lines for them to cut out. Then, you will cut out a leaf and stem for them to add to the top of their p to make a cute pumpkin!
Bonus: Sensory Activity
I have one more bonus activity for you to do AFTER you have created your pumpkin art! You can take your pumpkins, a container of soapy water, and a sponge, then have your kids wash the paint off their pumpkins! Water is a fun sensory bin filler and having them wash the pumpkin also will add a little fine motor activity to the activity!
