I put together some fun back to school activities to do with your preschoolers this fall! I have included preschool math, literacy, and some fine motor activities that will make back to school extra fun!
Preschool Back to School Activities: Math
2D Bus Shape Match
The first preschool math acitivity can be done by hanging up each bus mat or laying them out on the floor. Your preschooler will pick a 2D bus tire, identify the shape, and match it to the correct bus. A fun song to sing for this one is “Wheels on the Bus” before or after you finish matching every shape.
Color Matching Buses
This freebie is a color matching activity that you can use with any colored objects you have around. We used counting bears. The colors on each card include yellow, orange, green, purple, blue, and red. Your preschooler will pick a card and then match it to the bus.
This freebie also includes a bigger bus and you can pick a card then put the bears (or other objects) onto the bus like below. This freebie is in my free library– “colormatchingbuses”
Counting and Number Recognition Activity
The perfect math center for preschool or kindergarten! I put the number crayons into a sensory bin and then laid out the crayon box cards. My preschoolers counted a crayon box card and then found the number that matched.
Back to School Activities: Literacy
School Letter Matching
This literacy activity is perfect for a sensory bin! I put the letter cards into a sensory bin. Then, my preschoolers picked a card, identified it, and covered it on their letter mat. I split up the letters so half are on one mat and half are on the other mat.
If you don’t want to print anything, grab some paper and a marker! Write letters all over the paper. Then, have your preschooler take some letter stickers or magnetic letters and match them to the letters. You could write lowercase letters on the paper and use uppercase letter stickers for a fun uppercase/lowercase match.
Bus Craft
For this activity, you need to get a book about school or a school bus. I chose How Do Dinosaurs Go To School? After the story, we talked about the book. Then, I took the big bus from the freebie above and some yellow strips of construction paper. My preschoolers ripped up the yellow paper into small pieces and glued it onto the bus.
These back to school activities will make your preschooler so excited about school starting. Comment with your favorite back to school activity to do!
