It is that time of year when everyone has basketball on their mind and I have some fun basketball activities for preschoolers that you can do at home or in your classroom!
Basketball Activities for Preschoolers
Why have themes in preschool?
Having themes in preschool can help create a more engaging and dynamic learning environment for children. Themes provide a way to connect different subject areas and activities under one cohesive topic, which can enhance children’s understanding and retention of the material. They also allow for more creativity and exploration in the classroom, as teachers can use the theme to guide their lesson plans and incorporate hands-on activities, games, and projects. Additionally, themes can help foster a sense of community and shared learning among the children, as they work together to explore and understand the topic at hand.
Basketball Color Matching
This activity is an easy one to do! You will draw colored basketballs on a piece of butcher paper. Then, your preschooler will take a dot marker and dot in each basketball with the matching color. This is a great way to review colors. For a challenge, draw basketballs in black and write the color word. Next, your preschooler will dot the basketball to match the color word.
Roll and Count Basketball
This one is an easy one that will have you using the same supplies as the one above. Draw a bunch of basketballs on your butcher paper. Next, take the dice, roll, count, then dot the basketballs to match the number that was rolled on the dice. This is a great way to work on counting!
Basketball Skip Counting
The last activity is a skip counting activity. This freebie includes skip counting basketball cards (counting by 10’s) and a number order worksheet. For the first part of this activity, you can work together to put the number cards in order from 10-100. Then, complete the worksheet by doing the same thing! This freebie is in my free library.
